A MOTHER OF A DAY OUT IN THE BAROSSA!

With Mothers Day just around the corner - and as we bitch about whether the Paid Parental Scheme will deliver $50k or $70k for mums with new-borns, take a moment to think about one of the founding mothers of the Barossa Valley - Sophia Seppelt.

Sophia was the wife of Benno Seppelt who in the 18th Century established the iconic Seppeltsfield Winey for which the Barossa is so famous today.

Sophia was a mainstay of Seppeltsfield as it was being developed, feeding more than 100 workers each day....but...how shall we say...she was busy...with other pursuits as well!

Sophia (as we explain on our Barossa Talking Tours History and Provenance of the Barossa disc) managed to squeeze in (or out!) no less than 21 pregnancies in her life (of which sadly only 13 made it to adulthood).

Compared with modern mums today, Sophia clearly was an undisputed wonder-woman!

Barossa wine either (a) had something to do with the pregnancies, (b) helped fortify her during her tribulations, or (c) did a bit of both!

So on Mothers Day, give Mum a day off and bring her up to the Barossa Valley! We reckon the Valley's wines will make her day! And get our Talking Tour discs as a Mothers Day gift for her - she'll love you for it!
